Watch collectors will have eagerly been following launches at Baselworld this year. The mega watch fair in the Swiss city was the venue of the unveiling of many stunning, and collectable, timepieces. Here, we round up some very unique watches for men
HM3 Megawind, MB&F
The latest offering from the House of MB&F is this Horological Machine (hence the name), who's star design feature is a large axe-shaped rotor that exposes the balance wheel behind it. The hour and minute indicators are ultra-thin revolving aluminum cones. The watch comes in an 18k white gold and titanium case; the rotor is made from blued gold.
Tread 1 Exoskeleton, Devon
One of the watch brand's most high-end watches, this 'skeletanised' Tread 1 watch exposes its inner workings in all its magnificent glory. The Exoskeleton watch's innovative design and display - the end caps, crown and detailing on the dial - will definitely have made it a show stopper at Baselworld; and the 18k white or rose gold case just makes it look richer. After all, it comes with a (approx) $30,000 price tag.
Histoire de Tourbillon 4, Harry Winston
This one's been on our radar since pre-Baselworld promos began. Described as one of Harry Winston's most complicated timepieces, the Histoire de Tourbillon 4 is available in a limited edition of only 20 pieces. It comes with 345 moving parts, all housed in an 18k white gold case, and finished off with the brand's signature Zalium band. But what sets this watch apart from the others is the arrangement of domed sapphire crystals and its intricately interlocked mechanisms.
MP-05 LaFerrari, Hublot
The car made its world debut with much fanfare at the Geneva motor show in March this year. Then the tribute watch by Hublot was unveiled at Baselworld this month. This va-va-vroom watch - Hublot's most complicated to date - comes with 637 parts and 50 days of reserve power. It's also designed to look like the engine of a super car. The price? $318,000.
L.U.C Engine One H, Chopard
This watch was produced to celebrate Chopard's 150th anniversary, and is being hailed by watch critics as a great pieces. The leather strap watch's design has been inspired by 'the automotive world' and is even mounted on 'silentblocs' and should help absorb shocks or vibrations.
T-1000 Gotham, Rebellion
This muscle watch is encased in a titanium tank-inspired case, with the time indicators set in a cut-out section at the head. The T-1000 comes with a record 1000 hour power reserve, and comes in a limited edition of 25 pieces. If you don't like the red colour detailing, there's four other colours to choose from.
GĂ©nie 01, Breva
It's billed as the first mechanical watch that displays the time alongside an altimeter, barometric pressure gauge and power reserve indicator on the dial. The 44.7mm watch comes in either white gold- or our favourite - 4N pink gold. It even comes with a knurled locking ring that helps equalize air pressure - useful when when you're up in the air.
