How to Disable Laptop Tracking Software

It is possible to disable the laptop tracking software that has been installed on your machine at the time of purchase. Laptop tracking software is able to track down your computer in case of it being stolen, pinpointing its location for law officials. LoJack is included in many newer versions of laptop machines, but users may wish to disable this software and forfeit the protection that it offers. Disable laptop tracking software by sending a request to Absolute Software directly from their website.

  • 1. Write down your laptop's service tag and serial number. These numbers are located on the bottom of your laptop and are required for opting out of the Computrace tracking service.
  • 2. Visit the Absolute Software website and fill out a request to have the software removed from your machine. Click the "Contact Us" link on the right side of the screen and fill out the fields with your contact information, serial number and service tag. Inform Absolute that you want to remove the software from your computer. Wait for Absolute to process the request. Processing time may vary.
  • 3. Establish an Internet connection and wait as Absolute Software uninstalls Computrace remotely. After the software has been removed, your laptop will no longer be traceable.
